Love your work, love your life?

Gemma Saltmarsh January 8, 2017

There are SO many people who are dissatisfied with their work. I wonder why? Is it that they can't decide what they want to do? Or are the people they work with soul-suckers? Are their bosses fostering a stressful work environment or a negative workplace culture? Does the free coffee taste like shite? Or are they searching for more fulfillment from their work or meaning in their career or business?

““if you’re never looking forward to going to work - dig a bit deeper and ask yourself - why?””
— Gemma Saltmarsh

I guess the question I'm more keen to know the answer to is - why do they stay there if they dread going to work each day? Perhaps they are they so anxious about the idea of changing jobs, interviews etc. that the idea of change is so frightening that it just doesn't seem worth the effort.

Here are my thoughts. We spend SO much time working that if we don't enjoy it, initiating change is the only option. Whether you are running your own businesses or working for someone else, if you're never looking forward to going to work - dig a bit deeper and ask yourself - why? Then you are presented with the option of overcoming the hurdle by taking steps to change your current work environment or considering a change of job or career. You might even take the plunge and start up your own business?

If the idea of initiating change is hard for you, we might be able to help you. We've launched a new set of 1:1 business and life coaching sessions that might appeal to you. If not, you could seek out a career coach, counsellor or just one of your favourite family members or friends to talk to about why you don't look forward to going to work and they may be able to offer some helpful ideas.

Here's an article which offers a few insights

For everyone else who skips out the door like me we can always remain mindful of others we work with that might be less satisfied and offer to help make their day better at the very least. Random acts of kindness can go a long way!
